Health Advocacy 2020 is a three-day international conference to be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from June 16 to 18, 2020.
Health Advocacy 2020 is the 13th biennial conference for the Global Network of World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery. The event will focus on strengthening health professionals’ abilities to advocate for health policy and programming shifts as well as to augment the impact of health professionals in health policy decision making.
There will be many opportunities for nurses, midwives, medical doctors, allied health professionals, academics, and government and non-government professionals to share experiences, successes, challenges, and lessons learned regarding advocacy and policy processes around the world.
The Scientific Committee will accept abstracts for oral and poster presentations on administration, education, health promotion, quality of life, adult health, mental health, and other areas that focus on the themes of advocacy and policy. There will also be workshops to provide participants with hands-on skills in policy, advocacy, and related areas.
The objectives of Health Advocacy 2020 are:
1. To feature international efforts to increase the profile and voice of health professionals in policy and advocacy with particular emphasis on nurses and midwives,
2. To provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in advocacy and policy engagement,
3. To offer a forum for health professionals to network to promote advocacy and policy within the region and globally, and
4. To foster and enhance collaborations and partnerships with educational, research and clinical institutes.
Health Advocacy 2020 aims to speak to a wide range of health professionals who share a commitment to improving population health and quality of care and to enhancing the role and efficacy of their professions. We hope that this Conference will serve as a springboard into the knowledge, skills, networks, and motivation to engage in policy processes as we work towards the Sustainable Development Goals and universal health coverage as a global community of health practitioners.
Health Advocacy 2020 will be bookended by additional opportunities for networking and development. For health researchers and professionals involved in the WHO Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery, the WHOCCNM executive meeting, regional meetings, and midwifery global consultation will be held on 15 June 2020. The WHOCCNM general meeting will be held the day after the conference, on 19 June 2020.
